SERVICES

Straubinger and Muramatsu certified, Powell trained.

COA
$275/$325/$400

  • Expect to be without your flute for a week to 10 days

  • The keys will be removed, disassembled and cleaned. Fresh oil will be added and key sections put back together.

  • As much tarnish as possible will be removed from the keys and body by hand polishing.

  • Any non-functioning pads will be replaced. Replacement of one pad is included in the price – each additional pad adds $20 ($40 for Straubinger pads, $50 for Gold pads) to your total bill.

  • The headjoint cork will be inspected and replaced if necessary

  • Pads are sealed with partial shims as necessary, adjustments regulated, key heights and spring tensions set.

  • When all work is complete (as near as possible), the instrument will be “played in” and allowed to rest overnight. After the resting period, everything is gone over again and any additional shimming/adjusting will be done.  Occasionally a flute will need two rests (most likely with a repad or overhaul).  Patience is the name of the game as materials settle and shift over time. This will result in a more stable pad job and will make your flute’s next tune-up easier.

Overhaul
$750/$950/$1500/$1850

  • Expect to be without your flute for 14-18 days.

  • All materials (with the exception of the springs) will be removed and replaced.

  • All play will be removed from mechanism.

  • New pads are installed and seated, adjustments regulated, key heights and silencers set, spring tensions set and a new headjoint cork installed.

  • Head and foot tennon fit will be adjusted to owner’s preference.

  • A solid silver/gold instrument may be lightly rouged on the wheel to return it to a high luster finish if requested at an additional cost. (I personally do not recommend this - machine polishing removes much more material than hand polishing)

  • Cosmetic dents and scratches will be discussed with the owner.  I don’t recommend removing these as the metal will be thinned and stretched at the site, which very well may affect the timbre of the instrument.  There is no going back from there.

  • When all work is complete (as near as possible), the instrument will be “played in” and allowed to rest for a full day.

  • Felt pads included. All other pad types will be charged as follows:

Add $75 for Straubinger pads

Add $200 for Straubinger conversion

Add $100 for Gold pads

Add $275 for Gold pad conversion

Add $175 for Muramatsu Lotus pads

Lotus conversions available -  please contact me for a consultation.

Repad
$540/$725/$1000

Expect to be without your flute for 10-14 days.

Repads will be done only if the mechanism of the instrument is sound.  New pads are recommended when most are torn, worn or mismatched from prior replacement. A repad is a COA with all new pads. Felts and corks replaced on request for an additional charge.

Need a quick adjustment?

Lost motion driving you nuts?

Noisy footjoint?

I can do small jobs like this for you at an appropriate hourly rate.

If your flute has not been serviced in the last year, I will most likely recommend doing a COA.

All prices are subject to 8.25% sales tax.  Additional charges may arise as each job is unique.
